Tonight we went to see my all time favorite singer, Patty Griffin, play at the Vic in Chicago. I've been a fan for over 10 years and have run pattygriffin.net for 5. Through the years I've gotten pretty close with her management, record company, band mates, and even Patty herself; been backstage plenty of times, have everything under the sun autographed, etc. But I had never, before tonight, experienced the ultimate fan dream. A shoutout. Oh yes that's right. Midway through the show Patty starts commenting on how she is feeling the love tonight because she has so many girlfriends in the audience, a couple friends from Austin, one from Texas. And then she adds.... "and my friend, Jen Caputo is here. I wanna thank Jen for all she's done over the years for me, she's my homegirl from Chi-Town!" (Or something like that. Seriously, I heard my name and then started tapping everyone going "hey that's me!!!" I was so excited I had to count on Adam to tell me what she really said.)
So yeah... it was an awesome night :) No pictures to share though because the Vic is ridiculous with their security measures, they search everything you bring in and pat you down, cameras are strictly prohibited. But man, was I jonesing for my 70-200 mm after I saw our seats and the lighting... would have been some gorgeous photos.
Here's one I took when I saw her back in January... just because I don't like posts without pictures :P
